BYU Football 2018 Coaching Staff (With Updates)
Updates on BYU’s 2018 Coaching Staff
The Cougars currently have nine coaches on staff and seeking a 10th
BYU’s football coaching staff has undergone an overhaul since the end of the 2017 regular season. Ty Detmer was relieved of his duties as offensive coordinator. New offensive coordinator, Jeff Grimes was hired from LSU and Grimes retained only one member of the previous BYU offensive staff and that was tight ends coach Steve Clark.
On the defensive side, linebackers coach Steve Kaufusi stepped down and is expected to step into a support staff role for the football program. Weber State secondary coach Preston Hadley will coach the safeties and associate head coach Ed Lamb will now coach the linebackers.
Every LDS BYU fan can appreciate this layout of the current coaching staff…LDS presidency style.
Kalani Sitake on the graph has a lean towards the defensive side of the ball. Per BYU’s press release on Friday, Sitake will be involved with the defense moving forward. Ed Lamb’s role as the Special Teams Coordinator is still up in the air. The Cougars could be hiring a special teams coach to focus solely on that position, or they could add another offensive staff member to coach the running backs.
Whoever the 10th assistant coach ends up being, they will likely be a versatile coach who could coach a variety of different spots.
