BYU basketball earned a solid win over the San Diego Toreros on Saturday night, defeating USD 74-58.

Along with TJ Haws’ offensive outburst, the Cougars received in sophomore forward Dalton Nixon seeing his first game action since December 6th in a home game against Illinois State.  A Redbirds player in that game stepped on Nixon’s foot and the Orem native has been sidelined since until Saturday night.

Dave Rose said in the post-game that team doctors had a minutes count for how much Nixon could play in his return.

“Tonight it was eight to 10 minutes for Dalt, and we kept it right in there,” said Rose.

Nixon ended up playing seven minutes in his return and Rose believes he could be a real positive for this BYU team that has their best record through 21 games (17-4) since Jimmer Fredette’s senior season in 2011 (20-1).

“Dalt’s got a real physical presence to him with a lot of skill. We can be more aggressive when you have one more guy on. That can really help us,” said Rose.

Nixon attempted one shot and pulled down two rebounds in his seven minutes of action.
