Saint Mary’s Basketball Will Celebrate Australia Day During Home Game Against BYU
BYU is already an underdog as they prepare for St. Mary’s in Moraga.
BYU vs. No. 16 St. Mary’s, Thursday, January 25th
BYU basketball is on another winning streak as they enter a contest against St. Mary’s. The Cougars are winners of four in a row and playing really well, but St. Mary’s is a far greater challenge than the likes of San Diego and Pepperdine.
KenPom currently gives BYU a 23-percent chance of pulling off the upset against the Gaels in Moraga on Thursday night. That percentage might be a bit high after the news of Saint Mary’s promotion for the BYU game.
The Gaels will be celebrating Australia Day at McKeon Pavillion during the BYU game. Former SMC greats like Patty Mills and Benny Allen will be in attendance. No Matthew Dellavedova, but they couldn’t honor Delly a second time during a BYU game. Two years ago the Gaels hung Dellavedova’s jersey into the rafters during the BYU game.
Tall order ahead of BYU getting prepared for St. Mary’s on the court, but now going up against a team that has been the main outlet to Australia’s best basketball players over the years makes the challenge even more difficult if you ask me.
The Gaels have six players on their current roster from Australia, including National Player of the Year candidate, Jock Landale.
