Where Does Fred Warner’s 40-Yard Dash Results Compare To Former BYU Linebackers?
Fred Warner clocked an official 4.64 40-Yard Dash at the 2018 NFL Combine.
Warner is in a great company of former BYU stars
Former BYU star Fred Warner had a very productive afternoon at the 2018 NFL Combine in Indianapolis. The results were solid, but the question I ask myself often and so does Ben Criddle from Cougar Sports on ESPN 960 is, how does his performance stack up against other former Cougars at Warner’s position?
The answer? Really well.
Impressive to see the fastest linebacker out of that group is Colby Bockwoldt who is now currently coaching for the Ogden High Football program. Bockwoldt didn’t start seeing significant time in his BYU career until his junior year.
Kyle Van Noy is someone that everyone (including myself) drew comparisons to Fred Warner and just like KVN, Warner entered the Combine heavier than where his playing weight was at while playing for the Cougars. But unlike KVN, Warner had a 40-time under 4.70. Van Noy’s official 40-time at 4.71 goes to show that some guys don’t time out very well in compression shirt and shorts, or KVN was simply too big for his own good at that time.
History has shown that Warner’s numbers at the Combine were solid. The next phase of this Draft process for Warner will be the BYU Pro Day on March 30th at the Indoor Practice Facility. I’ll be curious as to what Combine numbers he sits on and which ones he looks to improve. The 40-yard dash might be one that Warner can now move on from.
