Charles Barkley Mentions BYU-Utah Rivalry During March Madness Studio Show
Rivalries need to grow up and play the game!
Rivalries that don’t play are turrrrible!
Many viewers of the spectacle that is March Madness always ask, why is Charles Barkley a talking head for college basketball?
The answer: for moments like the one we just experienced on Friday evening. No one keeps it real better than Charles Barkley.
Barkley was discussing rivalries in college basketball and he said that these schools need to, “grow up and play!” He referenced BYU & Utah as two of those schools who just need to play. Here’s the clip.
Charles Barkley is a friend to Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak, so he’s likely aware of Larry’s decision to put a halt to the BYU-Utah rivalry in the 2016-17 season where the Utes canceled a trip to Provo over “safety concerns.”
BYU and Utah are scheduled to face each other in the Beehive Classic next December at the Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake and then a game at the Huntsman Center in December 2019. After that, no games are scheduled between the two programs. One thing is for sure, if the Chuckster was in charge of negotiations, he would make sure BYU & Utah were playing every single year.
