BYU legend staying involved in football while he waits for another coaching opportunity.
Will Ty Detmer find another job as a college coach?
Former BYU football offensive coordinator and Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer have laid low since he was relieved of his duties as offensive coordinator for the Cougars.
Detmer has expressed that he would like to have a chance at coaching in the NFL someday or even in the collegiate game again, but for now, Detmer is currently coaching at Dustin Smith’s Quarterback Elite.
For those not familiar with Quarterback Elite, QBE was founded by Dustin Smith who is one of the top quarterback instructors in the country. Detmer coached at QB Elite before coaching at BYU and according to Smith’s Instagram account, Detmer is assisting at QB Elite once again.
Quarterback Elite has worked with many of BYU’s quarterbacks in recent years including Tanner Mangum, Beau Hoge, and Jaren Hall who was one of the top quarterbacks that have come through QBE in recent years. Hall returns from his LDS mission on May 1st.
Along with Detmer and Dustin Smith, QB Elite boasts Mark Brunell, Kurt Warner, and Koy Detmer as coaches.
Earlier this month, Detmer discussed other options he is considering and what he feels went wrong during his two years as the BYU offensive coordinator with Ben Criddle and Cameron Jensen on ESPN 960 AM in Utah. Listen to the interview below.
