BYU hoops are loading up in non-conference
Man, basketball scheduling news coming in hot these days. BYU head coach Dave Rose is not messing around when it comes to the assembly of the 2018-19 non-conference schedule.
According to Jon Rothstein once again from CBS Sports & FanRag Sports, BYU will travel to Mississippi State and face the Bulldogs in The Hump on December 29th, 2018.
The Bulldogs finished this past season 25-12. The most wins in a single season for the Bullies since 2004 where the Bulldogs won 26 games.
Mississippi State advanced to the Final Four of the NIT this season before losing to eventual NIT Champion Penn State.
Mississippi State has had only three players transfer out of their program so far, which is a good thing for MSU because everyone else returns.
This is a quality road game for BYU and if the Bulldogs have a similar RPI resume to what they finished the 2018 season, Mississippi State would be a Quadrant One game for the Cougars.
It’s not often BYU plays teams from the SEC in the regular season. Last time it happened was in the 1998-99 season and the Cougars lost to Auburn who went on to have a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament that year.
Three years prior, BYU played Mississippi State with Erick Dampier and the Cougars lost that one as well. Mississippi State went to the Final Four that season.
