New Orleans Saints Sign Former Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett; Taysom Hill Still Projected As Second QB
New Orleans Saints signed former Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett.
Can Taysom Hill win the competition?
On Tuesday, the New Orleans Saints signed former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett to a three-year undrafted free agent contract worth the league minimum.
This is notable to BYU fans because former BYU star Taysom Hill is looking to become the backup quarterback to Drew Brees this year and ultimately the heir apparent when Brees eventually retires.
Along with Taysom and Barrett, four-year NFL veteran Tom Savage is in the running as well.
According to our Saints site here on the Wire network, SaintsWire.com reported that Barrett will likely be the fourth-string quarterback behind Brees, Taysom, and Savage.
It’s been well documented the nuggets of info from guys like Troy Aikman, Mike Mayock, that have suggested the New Orleans Saints are really high on Taysom, and he could become the heir apparent because of his 4.4-speed and Sean Payton viewing him in a high regard. But Barrett could be a real threat to Taysom’s path to taking that second-string position and ultimately becoming the next starter with the Saints.
Should be fun to watch the second-string quarterback battle unfold in the Big Easy.
