After three years of hoping for Tanner Mangum to be what he was behind Taysom Hill, a.k.a. the the year of the Mangum Miracle, his position as the starting Quarterback has most likely ended, if just for this game.
Freshman Zach Wilson has taken the QB1 rep’s this week and staying a little later after practice throwing some routes.
If Wilson takes over during the University of Hawaii game, he will go head-to-head with UH’s Cole McDonald, the nations second leading passer for touchdowns and yards.
Kalani Sitake has said he has kept adjustments open in every position to evaluate, this time, it was Mangum’s job.
Wilson so far has four completions out of six attempts for 64 yards and one passing touchdown. He has rushed four times for 25 yards in two games, which sadly, is more yards than Magnum has rushing all together.
Mangum started the first six games of the season. He has completed 62% of his passes for 1,042 yards and five passing touchdowns. He has also rushed for -44 yards in 13 attempts for no touchdowns. His run game struggles.
With all this being said, there is reason to believe Wilson will be the starter. But, we will see who takes the field Saturday night.
